About Sir Winston Churchill Campground

Lac La Biche AB, T0A 2C0 54.828626, -111.985068

Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is one of the most unique areas in Alberta. The campground is located on the largest island within Lac La Biche and can only be accessed by a long causeway! No other provincial park in Alberta can be accessed in such an interesting way! The campground offers beautiful campsites that are either by the lake or completely surrounded by the old-growth, mixed boreal forest. The sites are excellent for tenting, but also can accommodate a fair sized unit. Some sites might be a little too small for larger units though. The area also has great recreational activities! The sandy beaches here are absolutely stunning and a great place to catch some rays. There are two trails that are a fantastic way to explore the island. Along the trails there are several great vantage points for viewing the many bird species that call this area home! It is really a bird watcher's paradise. This park is a must visit!

This campground has 72 sites. It is open from May 7th to October 13th.

Beautiful and Quiet Reviewed on June 21, 2017

Love the huge trees and 300-year old forest of old growth. The birds start at about 0430 but they sound beautiful ... The trails are well maintained but still in a mostly-natural state.

Beautiful Park Reviewed on June 7, 2015

This is a beautiful park accessed from a causeway from the mainland on Lac La Biche. Lots of hiking trails & bird watching. Sites are smaller - might have a hard time fitting a big RV. Only 72 sites - all powered. Each camping section has a water tap & outhouse. Main shower building has flush toilets - very clean facilities. Campsite is a little more "rustic" & not as polished as some of the larger provincial park campsites, but we didn't mind.. Registration booth/store has extended hours & good selection of treats for the kids. Firewood available for $5/bundle. Several beach areas where kids can swim. Great fishing using the boat launch on the causeway. Lots of families were enjoying the great weather. Excellent presence of park ranger's & conservation officers. Will definitely go back.

So beautiful. Our site was so great. Private faced lake exit thru small path onto walking biking trail that lead to beach. Bit of a hike to the parks. Play parks are ok. Very hilly so biking can be harder for younger kids. Massive trees, bird sanctuary (so watch out for bird poop). Amazing hikes. Lots of areas to
Go see and explore. Store for treats and ice cream. Clean showers. One of our favorite places to camp.
