About Waterton Townsite Campground

Waterton Park AB, T0K 2M0 49.04871429, -113.9139719

Townsite Campground is beautifully located at the south end of Waterton adjacent to the lake and surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. This is one of the most scenic areas in Southern Alberta so make sure to check it out for yourself! The campground is fairly open with the sites being composed of a gravel pad and a lawn of grass. The park is beautifully maintained and the grass is great for enjoying some family games! One downside to the open concept is that campers are exposed to the high winds of the Waterton Valley. The sites are quite large, however, they lack privacy. All types of units including RVs, trailers and tents should feel at home here. Reservations can be made through the Parks Canada website. The location of the campground is ideal for exploring the area. The town is within walking distance. Here you can discover the great shops and restaurants that make the town so popular! If you're looking to hike, then you're in luck. Several excellent hiking trails are nearby that offer stunning views of the lake and valley. Waterton Lake is a popular fishing destination and is known to hold some trophy sized trout! The winds can make fishing difficult though. Overall, this is a great campground to discover the beauty of Southern Alberta.

This campground has 238 sites. It is open from May to September.

Great view of the lake and mountains all around you. Where else can you stay where you can take a 5 minute walk in one direction and have a fantastic meal on a patio, a coffee or a big scoop of ice cream. Or you walk in the other direction and go on a fantastic hike to Bertha Falls or to Bertha Lake. For those who can not walk there is a paced trial right to Cameron Falls which you can hear right form the campground.

This is a nice mountain campground next to a beautiful lake. The wind often comes down the lake, and makes it hard for the tenters, so be aware and bring sturdy stakes. Other than the Red Rock Canyon hike that's been mentioned, the Bear's Hump is a nice short but steep hike just before entering town that takes you to a great overlook of the town and valley.

I go down to Waterton for a weekend every summer with my friends. We absolutely love it there and can't get enough of it, definitely one of my favorite spots in the whole world. Would recommend doing Red Rock Canyon if you're looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon away from the town (about 20 minute drive). Lots of washrooms and picnic areas, would highly recommend it for a simple, relaxing camping trip.
